Our life is a long journey in which there are so many problems we have to deal with. Everybody has to struggle no matter how rich we are or how poor we are, everyone have their own problems. There are good and bad situations which we have to handle and face with courage. But there are some people who do not have the courage to face the difficult situations of life and they breakdown and get into the habit of drugs.

This generally happens with the children in their adolescent age. All children are not equal, some children are extraordinarily intelligent, some are good, some are average and some are weak in studies. The children who are weak feel the pressure which is imposed on them by their parents and teachers. Gradually due to this pressure they feel to be neglected, they think that whatever they will do will not make their parents and teachers happy and so they do not feel like doing any thing. Actually, when people take drugs they feel more confident, they think that it will solve their problem but instead it increases their problem. And when they do not get drugs they get intense and uncontrollable due to craving for drugs. Drug affinity can be described as a brain disease which affects the brain circuits and areas involving learning and memory, control over behavior and reward and motivation. Intake of drugs can totally ruin an individuals life.

Proper medication and behavioral therapy are important for appropriate treatment. The treatment generally has three steps, they are- detoxification, treatment and relapse prevention. Detoxification is not a treatment in itself but it is only the initial step in the process of the treatment. Proper medication helps in suppressing withdrawal symptoms during detoxification. An easy withdrawal symptom is required for starting the treatment, another important point is preventing relapse which is necessary for maintaining its effects. Further, it should be remembered that no two individuals are same and therefore their treatments also cannot be same. Thus, the treatment should be done accordingly.

Counseling and other behavioral therapies offered at drug treatment center form a very important part of the treatment of an individual with drug affinity. The treatment must satisfy all the needs of the patient, not only his drug abuse. The most important thing is that it is necessary to keep a continuous watch that the patient continues the treatment.
