What is Hypnosis:
Hypnosis comes form the word, Hypnos meaning sleep.
It is this association with sleep that many people think of hypnosis as some state which is akin or similar to sleep.
While hypnosis does not have to be a state akin to sleep - strictly speaking, hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness.
What is an altered state of consciousness?
Most people think of 'DRUGS' when then hear the words 'altered state of consciousness'.
Though it is quite true that many 'DRUGS' alter your state of consciousness - it is not necessarily true.
In fact, most of us humans, most of the time, are in altered states of consciousness - without having taken any drugs.
An Experiment:
* Imagine the last time you went on a holiday with a very close friend of yours. Take a moment to see the image in vivid details with you and a close friend away on a holiday.
Did you get an image, or thought or scene? Did you bring up the image or thought of your friend?
If you did - you 'got' hypnotized.
In other words, You were in an altered state of consciousness.
From perceiving what is real around you right now - you were perceiving (imagining, thinking, seeing, hearing, visualising etc.) - something that was 'unreal' - not present - not here and now - not real.
And when you do not perceive what is real - and perceive what is not here and now - You are being hypnotized.
Each time you watch TV, listen to some music, hear the story of a friend, tell someone your story, day dream, plan, think, imagine, foresee, remember -
You get into an altered state of consciousness - and are either:
Hypnotising yourself or another person.
It is as simple as that. Anatta Nergui |
